Edward Hillhouse, MBBS, PhD
Dr. Edward Hillhouse, is Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Leeds in the UK and Chief Scientific Officer for a robotics and stem cell company in Silicon Valley, California and a consultant to the Association of Academic Health Centers (AACH; Washington DC). At the University of Leeds, Ed served as Dean for International Development, Dean of Medicine and Faculty Dean for Medicine and Health. Under his leadership the Faculty was established with several new interdisciplinary research institutes and an international focus that saw it become one of the first international members of the Association of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI). He has also held full professorships of medicine at Cornell University and the University of Warwick, where he was Director of the Institute of Molecular Medicine, established the Medical Research Institute and helped to lead the successful bid for a graduate school of medicine.
Ed also helped establish the first National Academic Health System in Qatar, bringing together multiple clinical and academic partners under a federal governance system. This included the founding of a new national school of medicine at Qatar University. He is a founding member and consulting director of AAHCI where he advises international centers on their governance and the integration between clinical and academic programs. Ed is passionate about the role of academic health centers as vehicles for innovation and health improvement.
